Hi Carl,

Should have told me you are in Amsterdam! Or maybe it's not work at all..? As a Dutchman, I can confirm that no fellow countryman will ever wear a helmet on a bike. It's an effective way to recognise tourists... The very fact that so many people travel on a bike, makes traffic a bit more relaxed in Amsterdam: everybody just knows that bikes can show up from the most unexpected places, so most people drive carefully and quickly adapt to changes in traffic. A real exercise in Slowness though, you will find in the small streets along the canals: very often, delivery vans will simply stop there and start unloading goods. This may take up to 15 / 20 minutes and the cars behind will just wait, always without a complaint. It's the Amsterdam Way: if somebody would be angry, that would just be another sign: yep, it;s a tourist...
